I love growing Hostas in my garden. They have such a wonderful mix of shades and most of them have beautiful flowers in mi-late summer. They are great in partial shade and I often grow them by water as they provide good protection for pond animals!
The main challenge with Hostas is slugs. Slugs love to eat their leaves so you'll need to take this into consideration. I mainly grow Hostas in pots and use copper tape to keep the slugs away. You can also try sand, copper hoops or a garlic spray. Some people use pellets but I try and avoid these.
Hostas are very easy to divide and this can be done most times of year but is best in autumn or early spring.
